future HAUS

2018 - JAN 2020

The 7 key components of the HAUS

1

responsive lighting

The smart lighting for FutureHAUS was designed to be incredibly immersive and configurable. It is comprised of a grid of 875 individually addressable pixels.  Using sensors, the grid can create a field of light that adjusts as users move throughout the house. Sensors reduce unnecessary energy usage in unoccupied rooms. By changing the lighting color, the user can adjust the lights to alter their mood, prepare for a different time zone, or follow and control their circadian rhythm.

2

User interface design

A touch screen lighting control based on the floor plan is ideal because it allows for intuitive contextual control. This approach can also be used for other types of control. For example, the user simply taps the television icon to turn it on or off, or holds the television icon to access other controls such as volume.

3

Accessibility

A knock sensor was installed and mapped to the lighting grid. If a knock is detected the system displays a ripple animation originating from the door that was triggered

4

Smart Wardrobe System

The smart wardrobe system is comprised of two components: the interface and the inventory system. The inventory system is made up of several closets. Each of these closets has an RFID reader and a front panel that can be illuminated. There are also several rollable drawers for items such as pants and accessories. Like the closets, the drawers have RFID readers in each drawer. The drawers are equipped with an actuator that is capable of opening the sliding drawer.

5

Lighting scenes

As mentioned, waves are natural, strong, and wild entities that have their own rules. Even if you don't see it from the beach, most of the time, there are currents, rips, and surges, moving in different directions.

6

Eye Strain

Don't drop in! The worst thing you could do in the water is to "steal" someone's wave. If you don't have priority on the wave (sitting closer to the breaking part of the wave), then stop paddling for it. There are some rules in the water, which you could call surf ethics.

7

Habit Formation

Smart lighting can help enforce healthy habits. A lighting scene was created to guide the user through the wakeup process in the morning, creating a light trail that shifts colors to indicate how much time is remaining before the user must leave the house. In the future, research will be conducted on the phone usage data of the user so that any phone usage after a specified time will cause an unpleasant reaction in the lighting.
